An Iowa City man faces drunk driving and weapons charges after crashing his car into a snow bank.
Iowa City Police were called to the intersection of Dodge and College Streets just after 2:30 Monday afternoon for a car in the snow. Arriving officers learned 62-year-old Kurt Frazier of Brickwood Knoll was driving the wrong way on Dodge when he lost control of his 2023 Ford Bronco and crashed into a snow bank.
Police say Frazier smelled of ingested alcohol. When he got out of his car, ammunition could reportedly be seen under the driver’s seat. Frazier allegedly admitted to having a firearm under the front passenger seat, and it was found with a loaded magazine but no rounds chambered.
Frazier’s breath alcohol level was measured at .138%. He’s now charged with Operating While Intoxicated- 2nd Offense and Carrying a Weapon While Intoxicated. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of three years in jail.
