An Iowa City woman has been charged after multiple alleged violations of an active no-contact order.
Police arrested 18-year-old Zakiyah Williams of the Quarters apartments on Highway 6 East last month for an incident on a bus in December where she allegedly threatened her ex-partner with a box cutter. She held the weapon to the man while he slept and scratched him in the throat when he woke up and pushed her away. She was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with the use of a Weapon and Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury. A no-contact order was issued.
Williams allegedly broke the no-contact order with phone calls to the protected party on January 20th and 21st. On the 22nd, she reportedly sent videos, texts and made phone calls to her ex, and on the 25th called him on a social media app and instructed him to come to her apartment. A warrant for her arrest was issued January 26th, and she was served two days later.
Williams was charged with four counts of contempt for violation of the no-contact order. If convicted on the initial charges, she faces a prison term of up to three years. An additional no-contact order was issued Thursday by Judge Brandon Schrock, and a hearing is scheduled for February 12th.
