A bill introduced into the Iowa legislature would ban fluoride from being added to drinking water.
House File 2395, introduced by four different Republicans, would cover both public and private water supplies. The move comes after Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said one of his goals was to remove fluoride from the nation’s drinking water supplies.
Iowa began allowing fluoride to be added to drinking water in 1951 as a means of fighting tooth decay.
As of Friday morning, fluoridation was still listed as one of the top ten greatest public health achievements of the 20th century on the Iowa Health and Human Services web site.
