A local transient has been arrested for a pair of reported altercations on Southgate Avenue.

Iowa City Police were originally called to Shelter House just after 10:00 Tuesday morning for a subject in an altercation with staff. Investigating officers were then sent to another altercation next door involving the same subject at the 501 Apartments. When police arrived there they reportedly saw 24-year-old Rayven Paul walking away from a woman who claimed he had assaulted her with a chair leg. Paul allegedly had to be forced to the ground to be taken into custody.

Paul is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Interference With Official Acts, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all three counts, he faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.

Paul was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault causing Bodily Injury on Sunday after a pair of reported assaults at the city’s WET shelter…also located on Southgate Avenue.
