Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel visited the KCJJ studios Monday morning and touched on a number of topics, ranging from parking issues around the courthouse, jail renovations, and enforcement of the new hands-free restriction on mobile devices while driving.

Springtime brings more incidents of accidents involving deer, and the Sheriff’s office has their fair share. However, an improvement to the squad cars in recent years has helped reduce down time. The push-bars on the front help clear damaged vehicles from off the road, but also absorb the majority of the impact when a deer is hit.

The sheriff added that spring brings about additional challenges, including training, members of the department needing time off for National Guard duty, and employees wanting to take vacations.
