A Hiawatha woman has been charged after providing authorities with another person’s name, and eventually having that person found guilty of a theft she committed.

The incident occurred at Sheels in the Coral Ridge Mall the afternoon of February 26th. According to police, 19-year-old Hannah Sofia and two co-defendants stole items from the store, making no attempt to pay for the items. Sofia allegedly stole over $250 in merchandise, and when police made contact with her, she reportedly provided false information on who she was.

The incident went through the court system and the person Sofia used to identify herself was found guilty of 5th degree theft due to the fact she did not show up in court. Sofia’s identity was eventually discovered, and warrants were issued for her arrest.

Sofia is charged with 5th degree theft, providing false ID information, and malicious prosecution. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
