A Solon man arrested on OWI charges faces an additional weapons charge.

32-year-old Matthew Sorensen of Quincy Road NE was stopped by Iowa City police just after midnight Monday on Riverside Drive for an unknown violation. Upon contact, he allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, had the odor of ingested alcohol, and admitted to drinking.

A subsequent Datamaster test reportedly showed Sorensen’s breath-alcohol level at .143 percent.

A check of Sorensen’s vehicle allegedly turned up two loaded firearms near the center console of his truck and three additional firearms located in a backpack on the back seat.

Sorensen was charged with OWI first offense and possession of dangerous weapons while intoxicated; if convicted on both counts he faces up to two years in jail.
