City release
04/17/26
The City of Cedar Rapids has issued a Precautionary Boil Advisory to customers within a large portion of the Southeast Quadrant of the City.
An updated map outlining the area can be found at CityofCR.com/BoilAdvisoryMap .
We advise residents in the affected area to follow these steps for added protection against potential bacteria contamination:
- Bring water to a boil,
- Let it rapidly boil for at least 1 minute,
- Allow to cool completely before consuming.
- Use only bottled water if you are pregnant, nursing, or preparing formula for infants.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
- Intersection of 32nd Street SE and Mt. Vernon Rd is currently closed.
- Westbound lanes are closed, but traffic is being maintained by utilizing to the middle (turning) lane between 34th Street and Knoll Street SE.
WATER IN ALL OTHER AREAS IS SAFE TO CONSUME.
The area of the break has been repaired, and an initial round of sampling has been collected and lab tested. Chlorine levels will be monitored, and additional bacteria samples will be collected for analysis. We are currently on track to lift the precautionary boil advisory by Saturday afternoon.
