An Iowa City man could spend decades in prison after numerous alleged sex offender registry violations.

31-year-old Ashton Allen of Oakcrest Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 7:45 Friday night. Iowa City Police say an investigation indicates Allen had opened up accounts on MeetMe, Snapchat, and Facebook, as well as creating a new email account. He also reportedly failed to disclose his current employer, and refused to give investigators access to his cellphone.

Allen was placed on the sex offender registry after a 2014 conviction for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor in Linn County.

Allen now faces five counts of violating the Iowa sex offender registry. Because Allen has a previous conviction on the same charge, if convicted on the current counts he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.
