A suspect has been arrested for a downtown Iowa City assault that sent the victim to a local intensive care unit..
31-year-old Johnny Hua of East Jefferson Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 10:45 Friday night. Iowa City Police say Hua and another subject were kicked out of Donnelly’s Pub on the Ped Mall just before 9:30 on the night of March 7th. Hua left first, then allegedly turned around and assaulted the other man when he exited the bar. Witnesses say Hua threw the other man to the ground, knocking him out. Hua then allegedly continued the assault while the alleged victim was unconscious. The man was taken to a local ICU, where he required intubation.
The incident was captured on security video.
Hua is now charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Assault Causing Serious Injury. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
