An Iowa City man faces jail time after reports of his erratic driving led to an OWI charge.

The evening of April 15th, 51-year-old Fidel Garcia of South Van Buren Street was observed driving northbound on 1st Avenue, and allegedly nearly struck a street sign, hit a curb, and was stopped for the violation.

Garcia pulled into a business and got out of his vehicle before the officer got to his window. Upon contact, a strong odor of alcohol was reportedly observed. Garcia refused all field and chemical testing.

Officers say Garcia refused to identify himself several times. Additionally, two shooters were located in the driver’s door of the vehicle.

Garcia was charged with OWI first offense and Interference with Official Acts. He could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
