The Johnson County Board of Supervisors has eliminated one of the proposed sites for a new jail.
At Wednesday morning’s work session, the supervisors discussed building the facility near the Joint Emergency Communications Center on a plot of land at the southwest corner of Highway 218 and Melrose Avenue.
Supervisors were concerned that the cost of building at the site would be more expensive than other potential sites.
Supervisor Rod Sullivan expressed concern about transportation issues getting to and from the site for college students or those without their own vehicles.
Supervisor Lisa Green-Douglass felt the site was too close to the county’s Poor Farm.
The board ultimately decided against considering the Melrose Avenue site going forward.
