A Burlington woman was arrested early Saturday morning in downtown Iowa City after an altercation with another motorist.
Police say 24-year-old Charisma Alarcon was on the 300 block of East Burlington Street just before 4am when she reportedly jumped out of her vehicle and ran up to another. Officers observed her trying to climb into the window of the vehicle in an attempt to assault someone inside.
Officers attempted to arrest Alarcon, and she allegedly started to yell and pull away to prevent being handcuffed. She reportedly continually slipped out of her handcuffs and refused to walk to a waiting squad car.
A check of her vehicle allegedly found an odor of marijuana, and found a small plastic bag of the drug in the center console and a small bottle of Tito’s vodka. Alarcon reportedly admitted to having smoked and drank before driving.
She reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, heightened emotions and the odor of ingested alcohol. After showing signs of intoxication on field tests, she consented to a Datamaster test, which reportedly showed her breath-alcohol level at .161 percent.
Alarcon was charged with Interference with Official Acts, OWI first offense, marijuana possession, and cited for no driver’s license. She could be sentenced to up to over two years in jail if convicted on all counts.
