An Iowa City man who was convicted of soliciting someone he believed was a minor for sex has been sentenced.

The Gazette reports 23-year-old Travis Schuchert pleaded guilty to sex offender registration violation against a minor, enticing a minor under 16, and phone dissemination of obscene material to minors.

Schuchert had sex with a 15-year-old and was convicted of 3rd-degree sexual abuse in Keokuk County in 2023. He received a ten-year suspended sentence and five years probation.

On February 22 last year, Schuchert believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old that turned out to be an Iowa City Police officer. He allegedly described sex acts he was interested in and sent her sexually explicit photos. He also requested photos from the undercover officer and arranged a meeting.

Further investigation found Schuchert had two Snapchat accounts he had not reported to authorities as per his probation requirements.

Schuchert faced up to 15 years in prison, but Judge Mike Harris Wednesday ran the three charges concurrently for 10 years. Two charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
