A Cedar Rapids man was charged with OWI after a lab test determined he was intoxicated when he crashed his motorcycle.
The incident occurred just after 1:30am March 28th on Northbound 380 at approximately the 6 mile marker. According to court documents, 35-year-old Corey Rouse of Mayberry Drive NW was operating a 2001 Harley when he crashed. A deputy came upon the bike in the median, with Rouse in the east ditch.
Rouse reportedly had a bloody face, was incoherently rambling and slurring his speech. He was taken to the UIHC for treatment and arrangements were made to get a blood draw to determine his blood-alcohol level. While en route, Rouse allegedly said he was at a bar to check out a band, and his behavior ranged from regular conversation to carefree. He also reportedly told the officer that he was “effed.”
Test results from the DCI lab came back on April 9th and found Rouse’s blood-alcohol level was .225 at the time of the incident.
Further investigation found a previous OWI and that his driving status was revoked. He was charged with a second offense OWI and driving while revoked. If convicted on both counts, Rouse could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
