US Senator Elizabeth Warren was in Des Moines Sunday to campaign for Zach Wahls, the Iowa Senator running for the US Senate seat to be vacated by Joni Ernst.

Warren talked about Wahls’ insistence that she join him at a North Liberty trailer park in 2019 when residents were facing steep rent hikes after the property was bought by Havenpark Capital. She said what impressed her about Wahls was the desire to get stuff done and being unafraid to take on corporate industries.

Wahls said his bill to provide protections for the mobile home owners passed the Iowa Senate unanimously, but stalled in the house. Wahls said a closed-door meeting in the Iowa House included a lobbyist for the mobile home property owners industry and his current Republican opponent, Ashley Hinson. Wahls claimed that industry wrote some of the biggest checks for her campaign for the US House and is funding her current campaign.

Wahls faces a primary battle against state representative Josh Turek, who has been endorsed by former Iowa Senator Tom Harkin.

Wahls called the difference between himself and Turek is he’s more progressive and opposes Senate Leader Chuck Schumer and current Senate Democratic priorities.

Senator Warren and Wahls are scheduled to hold a healthcare roundtable in Des Moines today.
