Iowa City Police say the subject of a no-contact order was talking to the protected party on his phone when he was pulled over earlier this week.

42-year-old Donzell Lindsey of Dover Street was stopped near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and G Street just before 6:45 Wednesday night. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant and reportedly smelled of marijuana. A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a THC vape pen.

Police say Lindsey was on the phone with the protected party when he was stopped. He’s now charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense and two no-contact order violations.

The warrant for which Lindsey was stopped was for an earlier no-contact order violation on May 3rd when he allegedly texted the protected party numerous times to ask why she was not at a ballgame and accusing her of being with another man.

If convicted on the drug charge, Lindsey faces up to five years in prison.
