Two Iowa City residents were arrested after allegedly trying to sell merchandise they had allegedly stolen.

According to police, area transient Zarkee Hall and Mercedes Seastrand of North Linn Street possessed a doll collection that was stolen in a burglary. The 34 dolls were valued at nearly $4000.

The two took them to a local toy and collectible store earlier this month to sell them. Hall and Seastrand allegedly asked for $150 for the entire collection. The store owner took possession of the dolls and called police.

When confronted about the theft, they said the dolls were found by someone else, who gave the dolls to them.

The 36-year-old Hall and the 46-year-old Seastrand were both charged with 2nd degree Theft, a class D felony punishable by up to five years in jail if convicted. Hall was additionally charged with a controlled substance violation and possession of drug paraphernalia which comes with another 13 months of time if convicted on both counts.
