An early Tuesday morning lightning strike led to a Coralville house fire.
According to a news release from the Coralville Fire Department, firefighters responded to a building fire at 145 Auburn East Ln. at approximately 7:30 AM Tuesday morning. Fire damage was contained to the attic of the home, while the remainder of the home sustained smoke and water damage. The fire was extinguished in about 45 minutes after firefighters arrived.
Firefighters remained on scene until around 11am looking for hot spots. The owners were not home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was later determined to be a lightning strike during Tuesday morning’s thunderstorms. The damage was estimated at around $30,000.
