The University of Iowa’s discontinuation of the Fine Arts Council this fall meant the annual Holiday Thieves’ Market’s cancellation. However, the Daily Iowa is reporting that the event has a new name and new directors.

Summer of the Arts has agreed to host the now-named Holiday Art Market in the Iowa Memorial Union on December 7th and 8th.

The sudden discontinuation of the Fine Arts Council left many area artists being told with little warning that the Thieves’ Market would be cancelled, and Summer of the Arts director Lisa Barnes says they received nearly three dozen applications within the first day of their announcement. Those who wish to be a part of this year’s event must submit an application by October 13th.

The Fine Arts Council also hosted a Spring Art Expose, but Summer of the Arts will not take that on because they have their own spring event to host.
