Waterloo woman leaves baby in car while smoking meth in NL convenience store restroom

A Waterloo woman was charged with child endangerment after allegedly  leaving her baby unattended in a vehicle for as much as 45 minutes while she smoked meth in a North Liberty convenience store restroom.

According to police, 23-year-old Kalyn Sharp of West Park Avenue is the mother of the 2-month-old child and is the sole provider. She reportedly left the baby in her vehicle without the engine running when she went into the Casey’s on North Kansas Avenue Saturday night. Staff told police that she was in the restroom for at least 30-45 minutes.

Officers found Sharp in the vehicle at approximately 10:37pm with the child, under the influence of methamphetamine. She also had a meth pipe on her, and she allegedly admitted to smoking the drug in the Casey’s restroom.

Sharp was arrested and charged with child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia. She could be sentenced to over two years in prison if convicted on both counts.
