A Coralville man has been taken into custody after allegedly going for a loaded handgun during an altercation with police.
According to arrest reports, 32-year-old Jeffrey Goins of 9th Street was stopped for a traffic violation Wednesday at approximately 10pm near the intersection of Highway 6 and Gilbert Street. Officers learned that Goins had a warrant from the US Marshals Service when a check of his records was run.
While attempting to place Goins in custody, he allegedly attempted to flee on foot. He was stopped and reportedly began to resist. During the ensuing scuffle, Goins is accused of attempting to grab a loaded handgun out of his waistband. He allegedly ignored all commands and continually resisted until being placed into custody.
Goins was charged with Interference with Official Acts involving a Firearm. It’s a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term not exceeding five years if convicted.
