A registered sex offender faces multiple charges after allegedly calling in a false report to Iowa City Police about a knife attack.
Iowa City Police say 44-year-old Kennthony Jackson of South Lucas Street was at a woman’s apartment on East Burlington Street around 1am on August 4th when her ex-boyfriend showed up unannounced. An altercation ensued between Jackson and the ex-boyfriend, and Jackson left with the woman’s phone, leaving his phone behind. Jackson then allegedly called police to report that a male was assaulting a female with a knife at the woman’s apartment. An investigation determined that never happened.
Jackson was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 4am Sunday. Police say he was also wanted for violating the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Jackson was convicted of two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse in Illinois in 1999. He was arrested on a warrant from Missouri last April, and while in the Johnson County jail was entered into the registry. He was transferred to Missouri, but at some point after his release returned to Iowa City without notifying authorities.
Jackson is charged with Making a False Report of an Indicatable Offense to a Public Entity, Making a False Report to 9-1-1, and a 2nd Offense Sex Offender Registry Violation. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over six years in prison.
