An Iowa City man accused of a string of crimes in 2021 was convicted of selling meth in a Riverside Casino parking lot.
KCRG TV reports that 38-year-old Mark Poggenpohl sold 3.7 grams of methamphetamine to a person cooperating with authorities on March 18th of 2021. The witness testified that they saw several more bags of meth in Poggenpohl’s backpack, and saw him enter the casino with that backpack.
Sentencing is set for June 10th, where Poggenpohl could be sentenced to a prison term of 15 to 45 years.
Poggenpohl has been charged with a string of 2021 burglaries and thefts as well. In late November, he was taken into custody on several warrants and charged with 1st degree theft, four counts of 3rd degree burglary, 2nd and 3rd degree criminal mischief, 3rd degree theft, driving while barred, four counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, 4th and 5th degree theft, and eluding. At the time, Poggenpohl faced up to over 50 years in prison if convicted on all charges. A plea hearing is scheduled for June 13th.
