A Burlington man was arrested after allegedly participating in an altercation at a downtown Iowa City bar and striking security personnel.

Police say a fight broke out at El Ray’s on East Iowa Avenue, with 18-year-old O’Marree Wyldon identified as one of the participants.  Security stepped in to stop it, and Wyldon allegedly swung at one security worker and struck him on the face, leaving a mark that was noticeable by officers.

Wyldon reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of ingested alcohol. During search incident to arrest, police say he kept turning his body and would tense up. Wyldon allegedly told authorities multiple times that he would elbow them during the search, and did so in an attempt to hit an officer. He was told multiple times to stop but refused to do so and had to be placed against a patrol vehicle.

Once in the squad car, Wyldon reportedly refused to identify himself several times. He also  constantly kicked the inside of the patrol vehicle and bashed his head on the partition, causing officers to restrain him.

Wyldon allegedly refused to tell officers his date of birth, and told them he was a juvenile. He had to be transported to the PD and then back to the jail once he gave his correct date of birth.

Wyldon was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury, Public Intoxication, Interference with Official Acts, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations.  If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.

A no-contact order was requested between Wyldon and the assaulted security worker.
