Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detainer for a Johnson County Jail inmate accused of trying to entice minors by using a fake Facebook profile.
29-year-old Hanier Ramirez-Garcia was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2:00 Thursday afternoon on charges of Grooming, Attempting to Entice a Minor, and Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor. Those charges carry a maximum total sentence of nine years in prison.
Iowa City Police say last October Ramirez-Garcia used a fake Facebook profile to communicate with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl. Ramirez-Garcia allegedly made plans to meet the girl in-person for sexual purposes, despite showing concern over the girl’s age. At one point, Ramirez-Garcia reportedly sent the other party a photo of his erect penis and repeatedly asked her to send “sexy photos”.
Ramirez-Garcia has no listed address. He had not yet been released into ICE custody as of Saturday morning.
