Iowa City Police have arrested a man they say used his minor stepson to help him steal from an Iowa City business after the two reportedly literally returned to the scene of the crime.
According to arrest records, 31-year-old Terron Petersen of Broadway Street and his 12-year-old stepson entered GameStop on Highway 1 West just after 1:00 Wednesday afternoon. The stepson allegedly concealed 17 PS5 game controllers totaling $935 in a backpack and the two left the store.
The pair was arrested after they returned to the store on Thursday and allegedly committed a second theft. Police say Petersen told them he was going through hard times financially, and he no longer had possession of the stolen controllers.
Petersen is charged with 3rd Degree Theft and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
