A Cedar Rapids man was charged with OWI after allegedly operating his boat while under the influence.
A DNR officer reportedly observed 26-year-old Lucas Harmening of Beverly Road SW Saturday operating a Bass Tracker boar on the Rez at around 9pm. He was allegedly stopped for not having his navigation lights illuminated as required.
Upon contact, multiple empty beer cans were found on the floor of the boat, and Harmening reportedly admitted to drinking. He showed multiple signs of impairment and agreed to chemical testing. A PBT showed his breath-alcohol level at .208 percent; a subsequent Datamaster measured it at .196 percent.
Harmening was charged with operating a motorboat while intoxicated, which carries the same possible sentence of 1 year in jail as operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
