The Iowa Democratic Party was quick to react after the US Senate passed President Trump’s reconciliation bill Tuesday.
Party Chair Rita Hart issued a statement following US Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst voting for the bill. She said, “Iowans are already dealing with the 49th worst economy in the nation and now…they will also have a harder time finding jobs, paying for their health care, and keeping up with rising energy costs just so billionaires and the ultra-wealthy can get some cushy tax breaks.”
A newly released study from the Center for Global Sustainability at the University of Maryland reveals the significant economic risks Iowa faces if federal clean energy policies, including the Inflation Reduction Act and the EPA’s power plant emissions regulations are rolled back.
They predict Impacts including a $18.8 billion drop in GDP over the next decade, a $2.73 billion loss in household income over the next decade, and a 7% increase in premature deaths due to air pollution in 2035.
