A wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 sent three people to the hospital with serious injuries and shut down traffic for hours Sunday night.
According to initial reports from the Iowa State Patrol, a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes around the 252 mile marker near West Branch. It struck another vehicle head-on as well as another vehicle. Another vehicle traveling westbound hit the wrong-way vehicle, and a fifth vehicle was also involved.
Three people involved in the collision suffered serious life-threatening injuries; the westbound lanes of I80 were closed for several hours but reopened around 3am Monday.
Identities of the drivers and/or passengers involved, and reports of other injuries were not made immediately available. The accident remains under investigation.
