An Iowa City man was taken into custody over the weekend when officers attempted to speak with him about an incident and found him with a firearm.
According to the arrest report, 29-year-old Raheem Coleman of Shady Glen Court was approached on the 700 block of East Burlington Street Sunday at 3am to talk about an unspecified incident. He reportedly refused commands to come out and away from the building. Officers went to pat Coleman down for weapons and he pushed their hands away. He also allegedly pulled away when police attempted to handcuff him.
Once he was detained, officers attempted to pat him down again but he again pulled away. A subsequent search reportedly turned up a loaded firearm in the small of his back, tucked into his waistband.
Coleman reportedly showed signs of intoxication, but refused a post-arrest PBT.
He was charged with Possession of a Weapon while Intoxicated, Interference with Official Acts involving a Firearm, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, Coleman could be sentenced to up to over six years in prison.
