A sword-wielding suspect is wanted by authorities after allegedly skipping a court date.

32-year-old Michael Preslicka of Wayne Avenue had a case management conference scheduled for Monday. But online records show he failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Iowa City Police say Preslicka was near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Taylor Drive just past 4:45 on the morning of April 27th when officers allegedly observed him in possession of a sword with a blade measuring approximately 28 inches concealed on the back of his jacket.

On October 5th, 2023, Presilicka was convicted of multiple felonies for drugs, theft and forgery. He was given suspended sentences, along with probation of up to three years. Due to the convictions, he is ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon.

Preslicka was charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, if convicted.
