Joking and bantering between two co-workers reportedly got out of hand and led to charges against an Iowa City man.
Police say 30-year-old Devin Dettman of Keokuk Street and the co-worker were in the back stock area of the Iowa City Walmart the afternoon of September 22nd. The two were bantering and joking when the co—worker made a comment about Dettman’s mother. That reportedly incensed Dettman, who chased the man down, held him on the ground, and repeatedly struck him about the head and face, causing minor injuries.
Dettman was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, and could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted. He posted bond and had a public defender appointed. Arraignment will be held at a later date. A no-contact order was issued by Judge Brandon Schrock.
