A rural Johnson County man is accused of kidnapping an Iowa City woman at knifepoint and sexually assaulting her in separate incidents.
Iowa City Police say 22-year-old Cameron Neuzil…who lives on James Avenue just west of Tiffin…approached a woman in the parking lot of the Quarters on Highway 6 East just after 4:00 Thursday afternoon. Neuzil was allegedly brandishing a kitchen knife and told the woman to drive him to Cedar Rapids. Once inside the car, he reportedly threatened the woman multiple times and claimed he could kill her before the police could find him. While driving down Highway 6, Neuzil reportedly hit the woman in the head with the butt of the knife and threatened to punch her. When the woman tried to flag down passing cars, Neuzil allegedly grabbed her by the throat and told her she was going to die.
Neuzil was also wanted for a September 26th incident during which he reportedly walked into the woman’s unlocked apartment, assaulted her, then held her at knifepoint as he sexually assaulted her.
Neuzil was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 5:30 Thursday night and charged with numerous sexual assault, burglary, assault, kidnapping, and harassment charges. If convicted on all counts against him, Neuzil faces a maximum of 91 years in prison.
Neuzil was on probation for breaking into the woman’s apartment in August and threatening and fighting with arriving police officers.
