A pair of arrests has been made in connection with a shots fired incident last month in Iowa City.

30-year-old Dequan Mardis of 3rd Avenue faces the bulk of the charges, including Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Going Armed With Intent, Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon, and two counts of Reckless Use of a Firearm. Iowa City Police say just after 3:30 on the morning of September 21st Mardis was armed with a .40 caliber weapon when he shot multiple rounds at an occupied residence on the 3500 block of Shamrock Place in response to a  previous incident. The targeted residence and a neighboring residence were both hit.

Investigators recovered 11 fired shell casings from the scene, and the incident was captured on security video. Cellphone records and witness statements also implicate Mardis as the shooter.

Police say an accomplice and Mardis’ roommate, 33-year-old Lashelle Beard, slashed the victim’s tires just before the shooting. She’s charged with 5th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 30 days in jail.

Mardis, who has a previous felony burglary conviction, could spend up to 24 years behind bars, if convicted on all counts.
