An area transient was arrested Tuesday morning after threatening the life of a police officer while allegedly intoxicated.
According to the criminal complaint, 46-year-old Zachary Wallat was on the 200 block of East Washington Street just before 9am and was called in for allegedly trying to fight people. An officer was flagged down by a pedestrian, claiming Wallat was intoxicated and yelling to himself.
Upon contact, he reportedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and impaired balance. Wallat refused a post-arrest PBT.
While being taken into custody, he allegedly escalated and started referring to the officer in racial and homophobic slurs. Wallat then reportedly told the officer he was going to kill him, beat his effing ass, and was going to find the officer and put him in the dirt.
Wallat faces charges of Public Intoxication and 1st degree Harassment. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in prison.
