Cedar Rapids Police have released their crime statistics for October, and say vehicle thefts, burglaries and shots fired incidents continue to trend downward.

In the release, the CRPD said Thefts from, and of, vehicles continue to show reduced occurrences. Year-to-year and five-year-averages are both down, showing what they hope is a durable trend. Drivers are taking the time to secure their belongings and lock their doors, which they say is a great first line of defense.

Shots-fired events remain at historic lows. 34 reported events so far this year is a 23% reduction compared to 2024 and against a five-year-average of 93 for the same period, is a 63% decline.

Burglaries remained somewhat level compared to last year, but aggravated assaults are up 13 percent from 2024. That figure remained relatively steady with the five-year average.
