With frigid temperatures returning to the area, the agency that oversees Coralville Lake is reminding residents about how they can stay safe on the ice.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has issued a list of safety tips for those venturing onto a frozen body of water.
First, ensure it’s safe, clear ice that’s at least four inches thick, wear a life jacket as a precaution, and bring along ice self-rescue picks or claws to help pull yourself out of the water if you fall through.
