The University of Iowa is following a Regents directive to do an evaluation of undergraduate and graduate programs, in order to close those with low enrollment.

The Daily Iowan reports the UI’s Office of the Provost will conduct reviews to see if majors align with student demand, the university’s educational mission, and needs of the state’s workforce.

The Regents report called for a review and evaluation of those undergraduate programs with fewer than 25 students and graduate programs with fewer than 10.

UI Executive Vice President and Provost Keven Kregel said with record levels of student interest, it’s the right time to take a careful look at the programs, and use the university’s resources where they will have the greatest impact.

This year’s incoming class had the second-highest number of first-year students in the history of the University of Iowa.
