Iowa City man wanted on assault charges additionally charged with sexual abuse

An Iowa City man who was wanted on assault charges and violating no-contact orders was additionally charged with sexual abuse from an incident that occurred last March.

According to court documents, 36-year-old Ramiro Gutierrez Jr of the Quarters apartment complex on Highway 6 east offered a ride to the victim the morning of March 6th.  Once in the car, he began driving in a direction unfamiliar to the victim.  Gutierrez ignored the woman’s requests to let her out. He then allegedly grabbed her hand, placed it on his crotch, and asked her if she wanted to, quote, “see it.”

Despite the victim’s repeated requests to take her where they had discussed, Gutierrez reportedly pulled out his penis and forced her hand onto it. He eventually stopped the car, and allegedly forced her to engage in sexual acts.

DNA located on the victim’s clothing matched Gutierrez’ DNA.  When interviewed, he allegedly admitted to picking up a female and engaging in sex acts in the car.

A warrant was issued December 17th, and Gutierrez was arrested Sunday. He was charged with 3rd degree Sexual Abuse, a Class C felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to ten years if convicted.

Gutierrez was also wanted on warrants for domestic abuse assault and violations of a no contact order.
