Coralville man injured in head on collision with Linn County deputy

A Coralville man was hospitalized after striking a Linn County deputy head-on Wednesday night.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 69-year-old Scott Rohwedder was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 100 in a 2003 Dodge Dakota at approximately 7:45pm. The deputy attempted to stop Rohwedder, but they ended up striking head-on at the Cedar River.

Rohwedder was taken by ambulance to Mercy Cedar Rapids for treatment of his injuries. It is believed that he was impaired by alcohol.  The deputy’s injuries were not specified.

The Iowa State Patrol, Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar Rapids Police, Hiawatha Police and Palo Fire Department assisted on scene. The incident remains under investigation; charges may be forthcoming.
