A memorial was held Sunday at City High’s Little Hawk Arena to remember the life of former student-athlete Parker Sutherland, who passed away just shy of his 19th birthday on February 14th at the University of Northern Iowa after collapsing during warmups at a morning workout two days prior.
Hundreds of friends, family, UNI teammates and community members gathered to honor his life.
City High Principal John Bacon said Sutherland lived up to the challenge to be leaders, lift others up and get involved.
The Press-Citizen reports speakers included longtime friends from Sutherland’s childhood and from his time at the University of Northern Iowa. The tributes reiterated Sutherland’s character as selfless, compassionate, dedicated, goofy, uplifting, loyal, dependable and authentic.
