The University of Iowa is proposing projects to upgrade its radiology, sleep services, and a research facility.
Multiple sources indicate the University wants to upgrade the radiology and imaging department at its downtown campus, formerly known as Mercy Hospital Iowa City. It comes with a price tag at $12.2 million. UI Healthcare says the equipment at the campus is at the end of its lifespan.
UI Health Care also seeks $5 million to centralize and merge its sleep labs in Coralville. The Press Citizen reports UIHC sleep services are currently offered at the downtown medical campus and the Center for Disabilities and Development, which is scheduled to be razed in 2027. UIHC would relocate the sleep labs into a shell space at 2769 Heartland Dr., near Costco.
Renovations to the first floor of the Bowen Science Building in the College of Medicine is aimed at enhancing anatomy and cell biology research. The price tag for that project is expected to be around $11 million.
The Iowa Board of Regents are meeting on the University of Iowa campus Thursday and will consider the projects. The money will come from earnings and equity funds.
