A suspect in multiple Iowa City liquor thefts has been arrested after allegedly trying to pass a fraudulent check in Swisher.
Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Central State Bank on Rose Avenue just before 1:45 Friday afternoon after 69-year-old Samuel Harris of Waterloo allegedly tried to cash the fake check. He was arrested for Forgery.
Harris was wanted for three different liquor thefts in downtown Iowa City. He’s accused of stealing six, seven and eight bottles of liquor from the East Washington Street Target on February 12th, 14th, and 19th. The total value of the 21 bottles of liquor is over $800.
Along with the Forgery charge, Harris also faces two counts of 5th Degree Theft and one of 4th Degree Theft. If convicted on all charges, Harris faces a maximum of three years in jail.
