IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team fell to Minnesota, 2-0, in its home opener on Friday night at Pearl Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Minnesota scored its first run on a solo home run in the top of the first and tacked on an additional insurance run in the seventh.

The Hawkeyes scattered three baserunners in the contest but were unable to plate a run.

Freshman Carly Brewer entered the circle in relief in the third, retiring the first three batters she faced, stranding two Golden Gophers on the bases. Brewer continued her momentum with a four pitch, one-two-three top of the fourth. In her outing, the right-hander notched two strikeouts and only allowed two hits over 4.1 innings pitched.
