A North Liberty man was arrested Tuesday morning after an alleged assault on his live-in girlfriend.
Police were dispatched to the Sugar Creek Lane residence of 20-year-old Martrell McWIlliams at approximately 8:51 am on reports of a physical domestic incident. While en route, dispatchers advised that he had choked the victim and left the scene in her vehicle.
The woman told police McWilliams knocked her phone out of her hand, then followed her into the kitchen to continue arguing with her. He allegedly pushed her up against the counter and grabbed her neck to have her look at him. The woman added that McWIlliams was holding their newborn child at the time. He then allegedly put the child down on a couch, picked the woman up, and threw her onto the couch.
McWIlliams returned to the scene and reportedly admitted to grabbing the woman by the neck. He also allegedly admitted that a small amount of marijuana in the living room was his.
Police arrested McWIlliams and charged him with domestic abuse assault, child endangerment, and marijuana possession. If convicted on all counts, he faces a jail sentence of over three years.
