The early Sunday morning shooting on the Ped Mall that injured five people has led one Johnson County Supervisor to call for action.
V Fixmer-Oraiz added an item to this morning’s Board of Supervisors meeting agenda aimed at studying the creation of a Johnson County Community Gun Safety Task Force. The goal of the task force would be to create more gun safety and education in the community. Fixmer-Oraiz also writes that they have heard from community members about the rampant racism on social media about the case. Community members have also asked to keep the victims and survivors of gun violence at the forefront of any action, and to work with the University of Iowa on solutions.
Today’s meeting is set for 9 a.m. at the Johnson County Health & Human Services Building, 855 S. Dubuque Street in Iowa City.
