A Nashville woman was arrested Tuesday night after a traffic stop escalated to an assault on a state trooper.
According to court documents, 35-year-old Rae Crockett was in the process of being stopped on I380 North at around the 6 mile marker just after 10pm for refusing to move over and almost striking the rear vehicles of a DOT work crew and a marked state patrol cruiser with lights activated. She allegedly refused to pull over for lights and siren, and exited at the Swisher exit before pulling over.
Upon contact, Crockett allegedly would not cooperate and listen to commands. She reportedly pulled away from being placed in handcuffs, struck the trooper in the face, and kicked at him when they went to the ground fighting. Crockett had to be held to the ground until another deputy arrived.
The trooper received cuts to their right finger and thumb along with abrasions to both knees.
A check of Crockett’s criminal record showed warrants in Wisconsin for resisting arrest and eluding.
She was charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
