ICPD issues first Park Road Bridge trespassing citations

Iowa City Police promised to crack down on trespassers walking and skateboarding along the arches on the new Park Road Bridge, and this weekend they issued their first citations.
Just after 3pm Sunday officers were called to the bridge for a report of skateboarders on the arches. Online records show 18-year-old Michael Blocker of Knoxville, Tennessee, 20-year-old Tyler Roach of Colona, Illinois and a juvenile were charged with trespassing. Last month Iowa City Police Chief Jody Matherly issued a statement saying anyone caught trespassing on the arches would face a simple misdemeanor charge. When the bridge opened earlier this year multiple individuals took advantage of the smooth, wide arches by walking and skateboarding over them. Once social media posts showing those incidents began circulating, Iowa City Police decided to take action.
