A North Liberty man who was wanted for a series of thefts while employed at a Coral Ridge Mall jewelry store has been arrested again for allegedly trying to sell some of the items to pay the court-ordered restitution.

Authorities allege that 25-year-old Troy Woods of Grouse Court was employed as a store manager at Kay Jewelers in 2017 when he took numerous pieces of jewelry without purchase.

The thefts took place between March and October of that year. Woods pleaded guilty to the thefts in March of 2018 and received a deferred judgement, with restitution payments ordered to start on May 1st.

Last July, Woods allegedly mailed some of the stolen pieces of jewelry that hadn’t been originally recovered to a company in New York City who buys and sells those types of items. An investigation determined that those pieces originated from Kay Jewelers but were never recorded as purchases.

Woods has allegedly admitted to taking the jewelry from Kay without purchase while employed there and intended to sell the jewelry to make the restitution payments.

The jewelry recovered from the New York City company included two items that were worth in excess of $20,000.

A warrant was issued for Woods’ arrest on March 21st; he was taken into custody early Monday and charged with theft in the first degree, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison if convicted.
